Five positive vaccine figures that show SA ‘is on the right track’

Millions of COVID-19 vaccines are set to arrive in South Africa this week, giving the country an almighty boost in trying to immunise a large majority of our adult population. In his weekly letter, President Cyril Ramaphosa celebrated a set of milestone achievements for Mzansi, as the jabs continue to work their magic.

Vaccine by numbers: It’s looking good…

Ramaphosa was full of praise for South Africans who had come forward for their vaccine already, branding them patriots. He also wheeled off a list of important figures, which show that SA is on the right track with its jabbing efforts.

  • The number of vaccinations administered in South Africa has now passed the 7.5 million mark.
  • Around three million people are fully vaccinated, as of Monday 2 August
  • We are now vaccinating, on average, 220 000 people a day.
  • Nearly 1.5 million single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccines arrived in SA last week
  • That was dwarfed by our new Pfizer shipments, however, as 5.66 million of their jabs are now flowing into Mzansi.

Ramaphosa thanks ‘heroes’ for enduring the pandemic

Following a slow start to the vaccination programme, adults over 35 can now get inoculated. We are just one month away from ALL adults being allowed to get their shots, too – and Ramaphosa is starting to sound like a relieved man:

“Over a year and a half, we have experienced a deadly pandemic, severe economic and social hardship, and recently, serious unrest wrought by those who want to see our country fail. By going out and getting vaccinated, we aren’t just protecting ourselves. We are performing a patriotic duty to our country and our fellow citizens.”

“In this great race to preserve human life, let us continue to work together in the interests of the health and welfare of our nation. In this way, we will ensure that recovery is certain. By far, the greatest heroes of this pandemic are the South African people, of whose resilience and steadfastness I remain in awe.”
