Toddler and pregnant woman injured in a taxi accident in Roodepoort
Eight people, including a 3-year-old toddler and a pregnant woman, were injured in a single-taxi-rollover on Hendrik Potgieter Road in Floracliffe, Roodepoort, on Saturday.
ER24 spokesperson Ross Campbell said paramedics arrived on the scene at 17:15.
THE TAXI WAS FOUND ON ITS ROOF
“Paramedics found a minibus taxi on its roof in the centre median of the highway.
“The occupants of the vehicle had all managed to self-extricate and had luckily all escaped serious injury, suffering only minor to moderate injuries in the incident.”
Campbell said the toddler, her mother, and a pregnant woman were treated on the scene before they were transported to Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital for further care.
“Four other adults were treated and transported to Helen Joseph Hospital while one other was transported to a private hospital in the area for further treatment.”
He furthermore said Metro, as well as JMPD, were on the scene for further investigations.
Meanwhile, on Saturday afternoon two people believed to be in their late 30s were killed in a head-on accident north-east of Westonaria.
A bakkie and a light motor vehicle collided on the mine roads between the R28 and the R559, north-east of Westonaria.
“One child and one adult suffered critical injuries, and two further adults are in a serious condition following the incident.
GPG ambulance services were already in attendance when ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 14:06.”
He said the bakkie was carrying white paint as it was all over the scene.
“An adult female from the light motor vehicle and an adult male from the bakkie had suffered fatal injuries and were declared dead on arrival.
“The child and adult who were found in a critical condition, as well as a fourth seriously injured adult, were also being treated by the GPG’s ALS paramedic by this time.”
Campbell said the fifth adult patient, a 33-year-old male, who had been entrapped in one of the vehicles, was also found to have suffered serious injuries and required Advanced Life Support interventions before being transported to hospital by ER24 for further care.
“The Fire and Traffic Departments, as well as the South African Police Services, were all on the scene.”
