Swallows boss breaks silence on claims Njabulo Ngcobo was spotted at Naturena

Swallows FC chairperson David Mogashoa has spoken out on reports that broke earlier today that five new player Kaizer Chiefs signings, including his player Njabulo Ngcobo, were spotted at Naturena.

The lanky Ngcobo has been the subject of some intense interest from DStv Premiership clubs, with league giants such as Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns often credited with the most interest in his services.

Ngcobo enjoyed what was undoubtedly his breakthrough campaign in South African top-flight football in the season that has recently concluded. The centre back was a big reason why Swallows were one of the hardest defences to breach last season. That stubborn defence saw the side finish the campaign in an impressive seventh position, in their first season back into the top flight, as well as their maiden PSL season under their new name.

Ngcobo had a successful season in the PSL

The steely performances that Ngcobo put in for Swallows did not go unnoticed either, with him being crowned the DStv Premiership’s Defender of the season. As if that wasn’t enough, the 27-year old earned himself a late national team call up, joining the Bafana Bafana camp ahead of their international friendly against the Ugandan Cranes.

That seemed to increase his price tag according to Swallows Chairman

Those accolades had previously led to Mogashoa waxing lyrical about the player’s new price tag, stating that whoever wanted to sign Ngcobo would now have to pay extra. In that process, he dispelled the rumours that the player had already been sold to Chiefs. That seemed to spell advantage Sundowns as their pockets are known to run deep.

It was reported that Sundowns had stolen a march on Chiefs for Ngcobo’s services

That seemed to be true as earlier this week, reports then emerged that Sundowns had made direct contact with Swallows and were looking to outbid Chiefs for his services. Although that spelt a lot of fears for the Amakhosi faithful, those fears would quickly turn into jubilation as reports today suggested that Ngcobo had been spotted at Chiefs training ground yesterday which could signal a done deal.

However, Mogashoa has since come out to clear the air on those rumours.

Mogashoa clears the air claiming he hasnt sold him away from Swallows

“I can confirm that Swallows has not given Kaizer Chiefs permission to talk to the player, let alone give him a [pre-season] programme,” he said.

“It will be very unfortunate if that indeed happened. There is no clearance that has been issued to any club.

“He can’t be called to collect programmes without a clearance,” he added, as per Kickoff journalist Lorenz Köhler.

So who is fooling who here?

Seems like the Ngcobo saga is beginning to heat up!
