Mpho Makola: New Cape Town City contract for ex-Orlando Pirates star

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola has signed a new contract with Cape Town City, chairman John Comitis confirmed.

Makola’s initial deal was set to expire at the end of June, but the Citizens moved swiftly to tie him down for at least another season.

Speaking to the media during the unveiling of Eric Tinkler as their head coach, City’s chairman Comitis confirmed that Makola will remain at the club for another season.

“Let me start with Makola… Makola has signed a new contract with us so he will be with us in the new season,” confirmed Comitis.

After spending seven years with Pirates between 2012 and 2019, Makola made a switch to Cape Town City two years ago to start a new chapter.

The 35-year-old quickly established himself as a key member of the Citizens squad, and used his experience to help those around him become stars at the club.

Makola has featured in 23 league matches for City so far this season, finding the back of the net once while registering a single assist.

Overall, Makola has played 50 competitive matches since joining City in 2019. He has two goals and two assists to his name.
