KUILS RIVER MAN ARRESTED IN PAARL

There have been several house robberies in the winelands and surrounding rural areas recently, according to South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in the Western Cape Captain FC van Wyk.

Paarl SAPS and Agter Farm Watch members set up a vehicle checkpoint on the R45 road and pulled over a silver Chevrolet with five male occupants.

“On requesting the driver to open the vehicle’s boot the four male passengers jumped out of the vehicle and fled the scene,” said van Wyk.

“The vehicle was subsequently searched and balaclavas, gloves and a baby browning firearm with a magazine and four rounds were found in the vehicle amongst numerous electronic items,” added the spokesperson.

Police discovered that the electronic items in the vehicle belonged to a farm over who had been earlier on Thursday evening by five unknown men. The farm owner positively identified the stolen items.

The driver of the vehicle, a 32-year-old man from Kuils River, in the northern suburbs of Cape Town, was taken into custody for the possession of an illegal firearm, ammunition, stolen property and house breaking implements.

“Investigation into the arrest of the other suspects is continuing,” said van Wyk.
