Welcome to Adjusted Level 2: Five things you’re now BANNED from doing
The dust has settled on yet another family meeting, and Cyril Ramaphosa has treated us all to ‘Adjusted Level 2’. The new alert phase has been implemented by the president, in a bid to curb the rising rates of COVID-19 infections.
Ramaphosa reveals extended restrictions
South Africa’s virus cases are soaring at the moment, and it’s hoped these newly announced measures can turn the tide. In addressing the nation on Sunday, Ramaphosa stressed how important it was for people to keep wearing their masks.
“The Ministerial Advisory Committee has therefore recommended that the country urgently implement further restrictions to limit the increase in infections. These recommendations have been discussed at the National Coronavirus Command Council and, earlier today, with Premiers, mayors, and traditional leaders in the President’s Coordinating Council.”
“Based on these discussions, Cabinet has therefore decided that the country will be placed on Adjusted Alert Level 2 with effect from tomorrow. It remains mandatory for every person to wear a face mask that covers their nose and mouth at all times when in public spaces. It is a criminal offence not to do so.” | Cyril Ramaphosa
What is Adjusted Level 2? Five things that have now been OUTLAWED
In the end, Cyril went with a lighter touch. Alcohol sales remain unaffected, with the ANC leader’s focus placed mainly on curfews and gatherings. As of Monday 31 May, the following activities are BANNED under Adjusted Level 2 rules:
- – Staying out between 23:00 – 4:00: The curfew has been extended to FIVE HOURS.
- – Staying in a bar, restaurant past 22:00: Due to the curfew extension, hospitality must close earlier.
- – Visiting a gym late at night: Ramaphosa mentioned that ‘fitness centres’ are subject to the same rules as hospitality.
- – Attending an event with 101 people or more indoors: Gathering sizes have been dramatically reduced.
- – Attending an event with 251 or more people outdoors: It’s also worth mentioning that no venue can be more than 50% full, either.
Under Adjusted Alert Level 2, gatherings are limited to 100 indoors or 250 outdoors and the curfew will begin at 11pm. #StaySafe #CoronaVirusSA pic.twitter.com/5hc251nKM4
