Ugandan President gifts Mamelodi Sundowns ‘keeper Dennis Onyango with new car – PICTURES!
Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has gifted Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper and former national team stalwart Denis Onyango with a brand new Pajero Sport car reportedly valued at $52 490 (R738 0094)
According to Kawowo Sport, the handover of the keys to the brand new Mitsubishi to Onyango occurred as the president as well his wife Janet Kataha Museveni, who is also the Ugandan Minister of Education and Sport, hosted a delegation of members from the Federation of Ugandan Football Federation associations (FUFA). The delegation was hosted at the Entebbe State House.
Onyango flew in specifically for the event
Onyango had only just flown into his native earlier on the same day, from South Africa and was accompanied at the event by his mother together with an additional member of the family. Draped in a stylish checked grey suit, Onyango was on hand to receive the keys to the car, as well as framed number 18 jersey from the country’s president.
President Museveni was also reported to have shown his humorous side, entertaining his guests with numerous jokes, including one related to the shot stopper’s decision to retire from international duty and give up his role as captain of the Cranes, in order to maximize what is left of his club career.
He had recently retired from the Ugandan National Team
The 35-year-old Onyango made his Ugandan National Team debut 16 years ago against Cape Verde and amassed all of 79 caps for the Cranes during that period.
After the event President Museveni went on his official Twitter page to tweet the following; “My son Denis Onyango, Mama, Janet Museveni, myself and the entire country appreciate thank you for bringing us national pride through your heroic exhibitions on and off the pitch, in and outside the country. We wish you the best of luck”
Kawowo Sport goes on further to say the Parliament of Uganda will hold a special plenary session in recognition of his efforts to the country over the years.
Onyango led the Cranes to two consecutive AFCON finals in 2017 and 2019 during his international career.
