Tshwane Derby: SuperSport United out to delay Sundowns coronation
Mamelodi Sundowns are the Premiership Champions-elect at the moment, but their Pretoria rivals SuperSport United don’t want to be the ones to hand them the trophy when they meet in a midweek Tshwane Derby.
Matsatsantsa a Pitori have endured a disappointing season by the high standards set at the club, with injuries playing a role in them failing to challenge for the title.
Sundowns can clinch the title with a Tshwane Derby victory at Loftus Versveld, but SuperSport could get themselves back into the race for third and the second Caf Confederation cup spot.
No clear favourite in the Tshwane Derby
SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo believes there is no clear favourite in the latest iteration of the Tshwane Derby.
“It’s a derby, you know a derby you cannot really predict in terms of results. In terms of performance, both teams are looking forward to the game.
“It’s a game where players don’t really need motivation because it’s a derby,” said Tembo ahead of the meeting.
“We are in a situation whereby we want to try and finish our season very strong, whereas they are also in a position where they can win the league with a win against us.

“So there is a lot to play for, for both teams. That’s why it’s going to be a very interesting game. We are looking forward to the game. We want to try to get a positive result. The boys are motivated and looking forward to the game.”
Mamelodi Sundowns come into the match off the back of a chastening Champions League defeat at the weekend while SuperSport United were last in action exactly two weeks ago, when they saw off Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila 1-0.
