N2 Crash: Family of three killed in head-on collision in KZN
A fatal head on collision on the N2 in nothern KwaZulu-Natal claimed the lives of multiple people on Saturday, 22 May.
IPSS Medical Rescue responded to the accident, which took place between the Mandeni and Zinkwazi off-ramps.
FAMILY KILLED IN N2 CRASH
On Saturday morning, at approximately 11:39, IPSS said it was responding to a devastating accident that happened on the N2 in KwaZulu-Natal.
“IPSS Medical Rescue is currently on scene at a head on collision on the N2 between Mandeni and Zinkwazi off ramps,” said the rescue service in a Facebook post.
“Multiple persons have lost their lives and multiple persons have sustained injuries, including two critical patients,” added IPSS.
While the paramedics worked to stabilise patients and free the injured from the wreckage, an aeromedical helicopter was summoned to transfer one of the critically injured patients to hospital.
IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Paul Herbst told TimesLive that a family of three – a man, woman and child – were tragically killed in N2 accident.
He added that a man and a child were the two critically injured patients.
ANOTHER KZN COLLISION ON THURSDAY
On Thursday afternoon, six vehicles, including a truck, were involved in a collision on the N3 highway heading towards Durban between Marianhill Plaza and Shongweni. The truck landed on its roof after rolling down an embankment.
No fatalaties were reported in that accident but seven people sustained moderate injuries – paramedics treated the affected motorists at the scene of the crash before they were trasnsported to hospital.
Earlier this month, the N3 was also the scene of a horrific accident that saw seven people killed and more than 40 injured when a bus, a rigid truck and a tanker collided on 11 May.
“We saw horrific scenes from the N3 where people were burnt beyond recognition with many sustaining injuries,” said Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula. “The loss of lives on our roads is a scourge we are fighting.”
