Maritzburg United want three points

Maritzburg United come into their match with the reigning champions just a point ahead of 15th place Chippa United albeit with a brace of matches in hand.

Tebogo Tlolane believes that the contest against the league leaders is one that Maritzburg can win.

“We come from a draw [against Swallows last Friday]. We feel like we should have won that game, so now it’s more important to win. We desperately need points,’’ said Tlolane.

“We know it’s a very big game, especially coming up against such a big team with good players. Even so, we know what we have to do. We’re going into this game fully focused on getting three points. We’re not going there thinking about losing.’’

Last time out: Maritzburg United 1-1 Mamelodi Sundowns

Is an upset on the cards

Tlolane believes that United have the quality to upset the champions but insists they will be granting all due respect to the team of the moment.

“In the first round we drew against them. In football anything is possible, however we take nothing away from them, we’ve to respect that they’re doing well so far but football is all about what you do on match day,’’ noted Tlolane.

Since their unbeaten run in the Premiership was ended Sundowns have played out a goalless draw against Golden Arrows and beaten Orlando Pirates 3-0.

The match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Maritzburg United at Loftus will kick off at 15:00 on Wednesday 5 May.
