    Ingredients

    • cup low fat milk

    • ½ cup white or brown granulated sugar

    • ¼ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

    • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

    • 50 g butter or margarine

    • 1 cup all purpose flour

    Method

    • Preheat the oven to 160°C.
    • In a saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, bicarbonate of soda and vanilla.
    • Heat the mixture on a medium-low heat while stirring with a spatula or wooden spoon.
    • Once the sugar has dissolved the mixture will become frothy. As soon as it begins to boil, remove from the heat and allow to cool completely.
    • In a separate bowl, rub the butter into the flour with your hands (you can also use a food processor for this step).
    • Pour the cooled milk mixture into the flour and mix until a dough is formed.
    • Cover the counter with cling wrap or baking paper and roll out the dough as thinly as possible.
    • Cut the biscuits using a round cookie cutter and arrange it on a prepared baking tray lined with baking paper.
    • Use a toothpick or fork to poke holes into the biscuits.
    • Bake in the oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
    • Allow to cool on a wire rack and enjoy.
