AmaZulu ‘homecoming’ for Thamsanqa Gabuza? Benni McCarthy a big fan
AmaZulu are rumoured to be in the pursuit of SuperSport United striker Thamsanqa Gabuza who coach Benni McCarthy is reported to be a big fan of.
McCarthy, who played alongside Gabuza at Orlando Pirates is now pressurising his current employers to sign his former team-mate for AmaZulu.
It has been widely reported by media outlets that McCarthy is planning to shed his team off of some potential dead weight for next season, with a couple of the clubs’ veterans signed before he arrived at the club, set to be top of the chopping block.

McCarthy has reportedly already told his AmaZulu superiors the positions and players he would like to reinforce in and with. The players he seems to have already planned for life without are former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana veterans Siphiwe Tshabalala, Tshepo Masilela and Lehlohonolo Majoro.
Tshabalala and Masilela are perhaps understandable as the duo have not impacted the AmaZulu side this season.
Gabuza could possibly replace outbound Majoro
Majoro’s name making that list, however, may have come as a bit of surprise to many of the Amazulu faithful, as despite being 34, he has looked a resurgent figure and top-scored for McCarthy’s side so far this season. It now seems apparent that Gabuza may be the reason McCarthy is comfortable with cutting his losses with regards to Majoro.
A source has since told The Citizen that McCarthy is actively trying to convince the lanky striker to return to his home province, and sign for AmaZulu when his contract expires at SuperSport this June. The source even going as far as detailing the exact reasons why his signing appeals to McCarthy.
“His forcefulness and his bulldozing of defenders is what McCarthy likes the most. He is trying it with Shaka (Siphelele Mthembu) but he is not getting what he could with Gabuza. And Gabuza is a free-spirited guy just like Benni and Moeneeb (Josephs)… they bring that element of joy to the team while the work ethic doesn’t get affected,” said the source.
Will McCarthy get his way with the AmaZulu management with this signing?
