MUVHILI WANGA: MAKHADZI RELEASES LUFUNO MAVHUNGU TRIBUTE SONG
The Murahu hitmaker who is loved by many for her energy when performing on stage released a song titled Muvhili Wanga (A Tribute to Lufuno) to honour the late pupil. Muvhili Wanga translates to my body in English.
The song which features Prince Benza was released on Friday, 16 April 2021, has over 75 000 views on YouTube.
In her YouTube channel, Makhadzi said the song is described as one about raising awareness against bullying. “This song is about #stopbullying awareness . It is dedicated to Lufuno one student who lost her life because she was called by names and beaten at school. RIP Lufuno Mavhungu”
Makhadzi has also been a victim of cyber bulling, where social media users often say she is ugly and body shame her.
Some of the lyrics to her song read “Stop trying to remind me of my body, I love it. Don’t remind me about my nose, I love it, don’t remind me of my head, I love it. My body, I love it.
“Real beauty is to be true to one self, we are all beautiful in different ways. We are all beautiful!” the lyrics read.
SA TWEEPS WELCOME THE SONG
The song has been received with such warmth on the social media streets. Tweeps took to social media to share their bullying experiences and how they relate to the song.
One Twitter user, Daniel Mavern said, “Makhadzi gets bullied a lot for her looks. She gets compared to men and ridiculed just for looking the way she does. Remember that next time you talk about kids bullying each other. We taught them to hate.”
Lufuno Mavhungu was laid to rest in Limpopo earlier on Saturday, 17 April 2021. A day after her school, Mbilwi Secondary in Thohoyandou held a memorial service in her honour.
