Kaizer Chiefs mustn’t go back to playing aeroplane soccer – Wydad coach

Wydad Casablanca assistant coach Mohamed Benchrifa has challenged Kaizer Chiefs head coach to resort to carpet soccer tactics and avoid aeroplane soccer in today’s crunch CAF Champions League match.

Kaizer Chiefs are unbeaten in their last four meetings which includes a remarkable Soweto derby victory over Orlando Pirates before club football came to a temporary halt in light of the international period.

Wydad Casablanca have turned up in South Africa for their clash against Kaizer Chiefs with a second string side while head coach Faouzi Benzarti with the Moroccan giants’ place in the CAF Champions League knockout phase all but secured.

Mohamed Benchrifa who will take charge of the team in the absence of the legendary Faouzi Benzarti has since urged Kaizer Chiefs to play the soccer they have been playing in the past weeks following a tactical change that Wydad noticed and not resort back to their aeroplane soccer.

Wydad hopeful Kaizer Chiefs clash will produce ‘carpet football’

“The head coach of the team, who is not here, has prepared the team for this match. We know it will not be easy. We know we are playing Kaizer Chiefs on their field. We know they want to win, like us. They’re desperate.” – Mohamed Benchrifa said.

“We know that Kaizer Chiefs have changed their strategy. They play on the carpet now and we know their strategy. They have changed their strategy from 4-4-2 to 3-5-2 and their game has transformed massively. Everybody knows what he has to do. We hope that both good teams will play good football to promote African football.”

Benchrifa optimistic of victory despite Wydad ‘B’ team showing up

“Wydad Casablanca is a great team and we play match by match. We have a great team with great players. In Wydad we have many good players. We know that our players play for our national team, and all other players are ready to play.” – Benchrifa said of his side’s clash against Kaizer Chiefs.

“We are playing for three competitions, the Champions League, our national championship and for our cup. We have several players who have the same level. The players who are with us have already played in many matches.

“For our head coach this match against Kaizer Chiefs gives the possibility for some players to play some matches at a high level. Every player knows the responsibility and what he has to do.”

Action at the FNB stadium gets underway at 18:00. This website will be working around the clock to arrange a live stream for you before kick-off.

A victory for Kaizer Chiefs will see them move into pole position in terms of qualifying for the knockout round alongside their opponents Wydad Casablanca while a loss will leave them with a slim chance of proceeding.
