SAPS bust crook who hid R5 000 worth of drugs IN HIS FACE MASK

This criminal tried to mask his crimes, but ultimately, he now has to face the consequences. An utterly bonkers arrest took place in the Kathu region of the Northern Cape on Monday afternoon, after cops found more than they bargained for inside the face covering of an erratic driver.

Face cover-up: Northern Cape suspect caught out during traffic stop

Up to R5 000 worth of illicit drugs – including heroin and crystal meth – was concealed inside the protective mask worn by this innovative criminal. SAPS discovered the hidden narcotics after they pulled a motorist over for negligent driving. He was then instructed to put a mask on, and during the search process, officers were able to put two and two together.

This particular piece of PPE contained a number of zips and pockets on the inside. Somehow, the suspect had managed to cram 16 small bags of drugs into various parts of the mask. The value of these substances is believed to be about R5 000.

SAPS react to ‘face mask drug bust’

SAPS issued a statement on Tuesday, confirming most of the mind-boggling details.

“While the members were conducting vehicle patrols in Rietbok Street, Kathu, a dark silver Suzuki sedan drove in a negligent manner in front of them. The members stopped the vehicle and noticed the driver acting nervous. After requesting the driver to put on his mask, the sergeants – when searching him – felt something in the mask.”

“Upon further searching the suspect, he discovered that the face mask had zips on the inside, and discovered 16 small ziplock bags filled with Crystal Meth, CAT, heroin, and mandrax tablets hidden inside. The total value of the drugs is estimated at R5 000. The 40-year-old male was arrested and charged for possession of drugs.”
