Kaizer Chiefs: Gavin Hunt’s former assistant makes shocking revelation!
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt’s former assistant coach Paul Johnstone has made a shocking revelation regarding the circumstances surrounding Hunt’s appointment at Naturena.
The former Bidvest Wits assistant coach claims Gavin Hunt was denied the choice of his own technical team by club bosses and was forced to choose Lee Baxter and Arthur Zwane as part of his technical team due to ‘club policies’.
Kaizer Chiefs and Gavin Hunt have suffered a disastrous campaign thus far with the Amakhosi sitting in 11th position on the DStv Premiership standings after 18 games.
The Amakhosi have also been knocked out of the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 however they are still alive and kicking in the CAF Champions League group stages, which is a historic step at the club.
Kaizer Chiefs chose Gavin Hunt’s technical team
Gavin Hunt and Paul Johnstone worked together for a number of years at Bidvest Wits and the former assistant has since claimed that Kaizer Chiefs denied him of the opportunity of joining Hunt at Naturena.
“No mention of Kaizer Chiefs not allowing Gavin Hunt to bring valuable staff with him, his first assistant Paul Johnstone breaking a successful 8 year relationship because of their apparent ‘policy’.” Johnstone revealed on Twitter.
Johnstone is not the only close associate of Hunt that didn’t make the migration to the Glamour Boys with goalkeeper coach Tyrone Damons missing out as well. Dillon Sheppard on the other hand did make the move to Kaizer Chiefs alongside Hunt and acts as an assistant coach.
Son of former Absa Premiership winning coach Stuart Baxter, Lee Baxter is currently the Amakhosi goalkeeper coach while former development coach and Kaizer Chiefs legend Arthur Zwane is a co-assistant coach of Gavin Hunt.
