‘ANC plotting to destabilise the Western Cape’ – DA fear political conspiracy
Following a series of hectic protests in and around Cape Town this week, local DA representatives believe there are some motivating factors that go beyond the demands of demonstrators. The party’s leader in the Western Cape is highly suspicious of certain ANC departments, as more people took to the streets to express their rage on Tuesday.
Cape Town protests – are they politically motivated?
Protests erupted in the township of Khayelitsha, and spilled over onto major routes such as the N2 and the R300. Restoring order in some communities has proved to be challenging, with debris and burning tyres blocking a number of roads. Baden Powell Drive, Mew Way, and Spine Road were all targeted earlier this morning.
Each stretch of road serves as a well-travelled commuter route, and the fact that so many strategic locations were ‘shut-down’ in one go has sparked something of a political conspiracy. Bonginkosi Madikizela openly questioned if the demos really were about ‘service delivery’ – and suggested that land invasions and extortion rackets have been organised.
DA blame Western Cape disorder on ‘ANC plots’
The Western Cape DA’s official line is this: Based on allegations made at the State Capture Inquiry recently, it’s possible that departments such as the State Security Agency are trying to undermine the government in the only province that’s not under ANC control. Now, whether that’s true or not remains to be seen – but Madikizela still strongly suspects foul play…
“We recall revelations at the Zondo Commission, that the State Security Agency funded some organizations to destabilise the Western Cape, and it is therefore clear, as we head towards the 2021 Local Government Elections, that destabilisation tactics are launched against DA-led governments. The protests we saw today are an extension of these plans.”
“We cannot rule out that today’s protests are politically motivated. Destabilisation tactics are used firstly to orchestrate land invasions, where people are charged money for plots, and then protest action is planned to demand services. The individuals behind these tactics want to destabilise DA-led governments and put themselves ahead of law-abiding citizens”
