Not Al Ahly’s worst performance against Bayern Munich – Pitso Mosimane

Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane was fairly satisfied with his team’s performance against Bayern Munich on Monday night.

The Egyptian giants suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the European champions in the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Robert Lewandowski netted twice for the Bundesliga outfit as Mosimane tasted his first loss since joining Al Ahly from Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to Mosimane, Al Ahly did well on the night given the calibre of the opponents in Bayern, but he feels they could have done better at times.

“We played against a great team and they possessed the ball. We should have chosen better options when we had the ball to attack,” Mosimane was quoted as saying by KingFut.

“We could have had a corner or a free-kick. Our reaction should have better in the second half, but it wasn’t the worst, and that’s okay,” he added.

The 56-year-old mentor admitted he wasn’t expecting the match against Bayern to be as easy as the Al-Duhail game whom they beat 1-0 in their opening match of the tournament.

“We knew that the game wouldn’t be as easy as the Al-Duhail game and we played good against a very strong side,” added the Kagiso-born mentor.

Al Ahly’s next and final match will be a 3rd/4th play-off against Brazilian outfit Palmeiras on Thursday afternoon. Kick-off for the match is scheduled for 5pm South African time.
