Search for missing Previn Pillay continues after car allegedly discovered

Relatives and friends of missing Pinelands resident Previn Pillay are desperately appealing to the public for help locating the 29-year-old, who was last seen over 10 days ago. Adding to the concerns of those close to him is the alleged discovery of his car, which is understood to have been found abandoned in the Delft informal settlement in Cape Town on 26 December, with the tracker removed and no sign of Pillay.

In his last post on social media before his disappearance, Pillay appeared in positive spirits ahead of the new year.

“Hahaha… this year was something else. all the b****** aside, hard work, late nights, sleepless nights, early mornings going into 2021with a massive smile on my face. Anything is possible if you give it your all,” he wrote on Facebook on 23 December, the day he disappeared.

Previn Pillay missing since 23 December

According to South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa, Pillay was last seen on 23 December and a missing persons report was filed shortly thereafter.

“I can confirm that the disappearance of Previn Pillay is under investigation by Pinelands police. All leads are being pursued and he is yet to be found,” she said.

She said that Pinelands detectives are continuing to investigate the matter and that they will be able to provide more information on the progress of their probe in the coming days. She was unable to confirm that Pillay’s vehicle had been found, although this was reported by the Elsies River Gangwatch page on Facebook on 1 January 2020.

“[Pillay’s] White Toyota Hilux was last sighted driving in Elsies River and car now found in Delft with the tracker removed. No sign of Previn. Case was reported at Pinelands Police station,” they wrote.
