Five things you should know about the rapper behind the #BussItChallenge

Here are five things you should know about Banks and the first big viral trend of the new year.

ERICA BANKS’S #BUSSITCHALLENGE

The #BussItChallenge is similar to the #Dontrush makeup challenge that trended over the lockdown in 2020.

The challenge sees participants recording themselves in comfortable clothing as Nelly’s Hot In Here plays. Then, as they get down, the video cuts to a glamorous change of wardrobe with Banks’s Buss It playing while participants twerk.

Celebrities like Gabrielle Union, Tracee Ellis Ross, Nelly’s girlfriend, Shantal Jackson and others have joined the challenge. The funniest one yet is Monica Denise Arnold’s #BussItChallenge where her son, Romelo, chimes in, calling her out on it.

MZANSI CELEBRITIES JOIN CHALLENGE

South African celebrities were not going to let this one pass. Dancer and musician Moonchild Sanelly, actress Pasi Koetle and rapper Nadia Nakai were among those who joined in on the challenge.

A few weeks later he reached out to her and signed her to his team.

BANKS NOW SIGNED TO WARNER BROS RECORDS

Following the success of her hit Buss It and the viral #BussItChallenge, Banks announced on 7 January that she was signed to Warner Bros Records. In an Instagram post she and 1501’s Crawford are seen popping a bottle of Champagne.

“I’m just getting started!,” she declared.

The rapper who had solid school results enrolled into college to study nursing, but changed her major to business. She later dropped out of college to pursue her career in music.

SHE RECEIVED NICKI MINAJ’S STAMP OF APPROVAL
