Listen to the Daily News Wrap, Monday 14 December

This is the Daily News Wrap from The South African, bringing you all the news you really need to get you going on this fine morning.

We start with an interesting development – news that Nelson Mandela Bay won’t be the only metro under localised restrictions for much longer – there’s a new COVID-19 hot-spot on the radar.

Yet another region in the Eastern Cape has set alarm bells ringing, after the latest available data for COVID-19 cases in South Africa revealed that the Buffalo City Municipality is now ‘outdoing’ the hot-spot of Nelson Mandela Bay.

The region, which is home to the three districts of East London, Mdantsane, and King William’s Town, is now leading the charge when it comes to new infections.

It’s here, folks. South Africa is in the grip of the second wave of COVID-19, and Cyril Ramaphosa has decided to speak “sooner rather than later”. The president, following much speculation this week, will address the nation tonight Monday 14 December, when he is expected to announce more hot spots and tougher restrictions for those areas.
