Bongani Zungu update: Ben 10’s struggles in Scotland continue

Bongani Zungu’s loan spell at Rangers has began in rather underwhelming fashion with the Bafana Bafana midfielder struggling for game-time.

Bongani Zungu has been used as a late substitute by Steven Gerrard in Rangers’ last three games. Rangers currently sit on top of the standings with a massive 16 point lead over rivals Celtic, though having played three games more, however Zungu who’s looking to seal a permanent move to the club is getting limited opportunities to leave his mark.

Bongani Zungu joined the Scottish giants with large expectations however the midfielder is yet to hit the ground running. The midfield imposer undoubtedly has the talent to boss things in Scotland however minimal game-time has made his task all the more difficult.

Ben 10 will get better with time – Gerrard

“We were comfortable when he came into the game, but it was about the second-half performance. We demanded top standards at half-time all the way through and I wanted more goals,” Gerrard said earlier this month as quoted by Kick-Off.

“Bongani Zungu came on and kept us balanced behind the ball and kept it ticking over. He showed his range of passing and his aggressiveness in his profile, so he is only going to get better and better with time.”

Bongani Zungu and Rangers have one remaining game for 2020 when they face St Mirren on 30 December. The Bafana Bafana midfielder will be desperate to earn a starting berth and end the year off on a high.
