Another N3 road crash kills two people, 12 wounded
At least two people have died in another horrific road crash on the N3 between Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
Twelve people have been injured in the wake of the collision which occurred on Wednesday morning, 23 December 2020.
While some details surrounding the accident are unclear, it is believed that a container fell of a truck and landed on a fully loaded minibus taxi which was traveling in the same direction.
KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Management Services spokesperson Robert McKenzie said the road has since been closed off while paramedics and other officials attend to the scene.
“Light motor vehicles were diverted prior to the crash and the heavy motor vehicles were stacked,” McKenzie further said.
The festive season is generally a reason to celebrate, but also a bloody period on the country’s roads – something which government has sought to prioritise.
N3 road crash: Four victims seriously injured
He added that four of the wounded victims sustained serious injuries and were treated by the paramedics before being taken to hospital for further medical care.
The road crash comes just a day after another N3 collision occurred, claiming one life and leaving at least 42 others injured.
In that accident, a truck crashed into a Greyhound bus at Van Reenen. The driver of the truck was subsequently arrested and reportedly faces a homicide charge.
“We had a road closure of a number of hours but now we have got one lane open to traffic. One count of culpable homicide is being investigated. It is believed that the Greyhound bus was travelling from Joburg to Durban,” KZN Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu-Mali is quoted as saying.
