Watch: Anarchy as Gauteng schoolkids clash in huge street brawl

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi is set to visit Edenglen High School on Wednesday morning, after footage of a massive brawl involving local schoolchildren went viral. The clip, shocking in its nature, shows groups of students hitting and kicking each other as chaos engulfs the streets.

Mass brawl in Gauteng alerts authorities

The eruption of violence sees a mob of kids mercilessly attacking each other, as several classmates film the incident. Making a mockery of the current health advice, masks are ditched by many of the brawlers as they carry on slugging it out.

One child is beaten to the floor by his peers. Groups of three or four end up throwing fists at each other. It has not yet been established what sparked this anarchic confrontation, but authorities are determined to find out.

MEC to visit Edenglen High School

Lesufi will be visiting the school later in the day, to ascertain what exactly led to this mindless exhibition of brutality. The MEC had a particularly tough time of things last year, as a spate of violent incidents saw him appear at several schools to deal with incidences of murder and sexual assaults. That’s not the case in Edenglen, however…

No deaths or serious injuries have been reported here, but Lesufi is adamant about getting to the bottom of this ‘Royal Rumble’. Sadly, this isn’t the first physical clash we’ve seen outside of the school gates this week: EFF protesters were attacked by angry locals in Brackenfell, as one woman was hit with a baseball bat.
