South Africa: Today’s latest news and headlines, Monday 30 November
After an eventful week, the new one is off to a sprinting start today. Former South African Revenue Service (Sars) commissioner Tom Moyane is expected to cross-examine Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan at the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture on Monday 30 November.
Gordhan told the Commission, during his testimony in 2018, that Moyane had laid a criminal complaint against him to advance his own interest of state capture.
Now Moyane will have a chance to challenge Gordhan’s statement. The two have been at the heart of a bitter battle for the soul of Sars.
TOM MOYANE VS PRAVIN GORDHAN
Moyane challenged Gordhan for approving the early retirement of former Sars deputy commissioner Ivan Pillay and accused him of establishing the so-called Sars Rogue Unit.
It promises to be another absorbing week at the State Capture commission starting on Monday 30 November.
