MOTHER CHARGED WITH HUMAN TRAFFICKING FOR SEXUAL EXPLOITATION AND RAPE
According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in the Western Cape Eric Ntabazalila, the mother has been charged with human trafficking for sexual exploitation and rape.
“The ordeal came to the fore after the victim shared her gruesome experience with a friend in early October. The mother was arrested on 3 October 2020,” said Ntabazalila.
“Police are still looking for the man. More charges are likely to be added as the investigation continues,” he added.
In early September, an attempted case of kidnapping in Florida, Gauteng rocked the nation. The video of a man trying to snatch a young girl from a pizza shop went viral at the time.
While many suspected that it was a case of human trafficking, the South African Police Service (SAPS) claimed otherwise. Roughly a week after the incident, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said the incident in Florida was not a case of human trafficking.
“This has been a reminder to both the authorities as well as every inhabitant of this country of the level of vigilance we need to employ to ensure that people are and feel safe,” said Naidoo.
