LIMPOPO FARM ATTACK

According to information that the Intelligence Bureau received, three suspects allegedly entered the property by breaking open the back gate. The suspects then allegedly tripped the power to the home, broke open the front security gate and door and entered the house.

“The suspects tied up the domestic worker and attempted to tie up the wife, but she fought back. They assaulted her with what appears to have been steel rods,” the Intelligence Bureau said.

It added that the suspects allegedly stole four cell phones, a laptop and a television set and fled on foot to the dirt road where they were allegedly picked up by a vehicle.

South African Police Service (SAPS) Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed the incident saying that two women had indeed been attacked, tied up and beaten on a farm amid a robbery which involved three suspects. He also confirmed that cellphones and a laptop had been taken.

Mojapelo also said both women are in hospital receiving medical treatment.

FREE STATE FARMER FIGHTS FOR HIS LIFE IN ALLEGED FARM ATTACK

Apart from Limpopo, a Free State farmer was brutally attacked by two unknown suspects on Monday 12 October. The complainant Andries Smith Myburgh, 31, was having lunch at his farmhouse at Vandermerwesdam farm when he smelled smoke outside.

“He went to investigate and was hit with an object on the head but managed to push the suspect away. He was allegedly attacked with a knife by the second suspect and in the process, he was poured with petrol,” said Brigadier Motantsi Makhele.

According to Makhele, the victim managed to pull his firearm and the suspects fled.

“He fired a number of shots in the direction of the suspects and whilst firing he realised that he is on fire and he jumped into the swimming pool,” said Makhele.
