Horror in Lenasia: Bus driver gunned down, set on fire in his own vehicle

A truly reprehensible crime has taken place in Lenasia this morning, after a local bus driver was attacked by a group of suspects on board his bus. The victim met a violent end, and police believe that members of the taxi industry are involved.

Lenasia murder: Horror in Gauteng after driver shot, set alight

It’s understood that the horror scene unfolded around 6:00. As the driver set off from Lawley Station, there was an immediate disturbance. The suspects managed to bring the vehicle to a halt, before threatening the driver with a gun.

They ordered him to leave the bus, and the victim complied. However, there would be no room for cooperation. When trying to disembark, he was shot three times by the armed criminals.

The ordeal didn’t end their either. The bus itself was set on fire, with the driver still inside. The blaze was so intense, passengers by the roadside were injured as a result of it. Police are now investigating the cases of both murder and arson in Lenasia, as locals come to terms with this heinous killing on their doorstep.

Taxi drivers ‘may be involved’

The link to the taxi industry is, at least, being probed by the police. It’s not yet been established what the possible motivation could be for such a brutal attack. As of 7:55 on Tuesday, no other deaths have been reported here.
