Tito Mboweni goes on Twitter rant, takes jabs at Zuma, Masina
One doesn’t need to be an insider or political analyst to realise that the gloves are now off in the African National Congress (ANC), now with National Executive Committee (NEC) member Tito Mboweni laying into some of Cyril Ramaphosa’s detractors, including the most notable – his predecessor, Jacob Zuma.
Mboweni, who’s also the minister of finance, took a break from sharing pictures of his culinary skills on Twitter, and instead went on the mother of all rants. This comes after the party’s NEC held its meeting, where Ramaphosa came under fire from some of Zuma’s allies.
Mboweni is also said to have come under attack from his detractors, after he spoke out against the Zambian government’s decision to sack that country’s Central Bank governor, during a series of tweets.
Without noting his name, Mboweni launched a veiled attack against Zuma, and said he had been “party of nine years of destruction.”
This is likely in reference to the former president’s lengthy letter, which he wrote to Ramaphosa, accusing him of essentially throwing the ANC under the bus when he penned a letter of his own, condemning corruption.
“You proceed to say the ANC should bury its head in shame. Mr President, this statement that you make is not helpful to the ANC, in my respectful view. For all intents and purposes, it can only serve to destroy the ANC, particularly if the head of the ANC pleads guilty on behalf of the ANC, and calls the ANC the accused Number 1”, Zuma’s letter reads in part.
Mboweni to Zuma: ‘Publish the book’
Just when you think he was done, Mboweni further challenged the party’s former leader to publish a book he had previously said was in the process of being written. The book would supposedly contain a series of bombshell allegations which his detractors are unlikely to take kindly to.
“He has, over the years, over-exaggerated his role in intelligence”, the minister said.
“We have known each other over many years. I think that he has now crossed the line”.
Zuma wasn’t the only one at the receiving end of his jabs, as he also took aim at Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina, whose call for Ramaphosa to step down appears to have really struck a chord within the party.
In another tweet, Mboweni lashed out at Masina, saying he needed to be read the riot act over his utterances.
