Polokwane City vs Mamelodi Sundowns: PSL preview and kick-off time

Mamelodi Sundowns have the PSL title in their sights while Polokwane City simply want to survive this season when the two sides meet at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday.

Polokwane City vs Mamelodi Sundowns: PSL preview

Polokwane City come into the match off the back of successive draws in PSL action and have not won a match since the season restarted.

Rise and Shine are rooted to the bottom of the table, but if things go their way elsewhere, they could move out of the danger zone with a win over Sundowns.

Downs, of course, are well and truly in the title race despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to struggling Baroka FC on Sunday. They are level on points with league-leading Kaizer Chiefs with goal difference currently separating the title rivals.

With just six goals from the last five games, Sundowns haven’t set the world on fire in the final third since the league resumed.

Team news

Downs could be without key players such as midfielders Sibusiso Vilakazi, Andile Jali, and Gaston Sirino who all picked up knocks in the defeat to Baroka.

There will also be late fitness tests for Mosa Lebusa and Phakamani Mahlambi who sustained hamstring and ankle injuries respectively.

The defending champions have declared that goalkeeper Denis Onyango and midfielder Rivaldo Coetzee are progressing well from their injuries, but neither should feature against Rise and Shine.

For Polokwane City Mpho Mvelase and Njabulo Buthelezi are on the brink of suspension should they be booked, they will miss the final match of the season.

Charlton Mashumba leads the scoring for City this term and is expected to lead the line.
