Ndlozi takes shots at Tito Mboweni for ‘cooking gibberish’

The Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) Mbuyiseni Ndlozi is clearly not a fan of the Minister of Finance Tito Mboweni’s culinary skills, or lack thereof, depending on who you ask. Ndlozi, who is as outspoken in Parliament as he is on social media, wasted no time, calling Mboweni out for ‘bragging’ about an egg dish he had made, while South Africans are battling to find work.

Whether it was an omlette or a frittata that the minister had cooked on Tuesday, 29 September 2020 – only he can answer that question, describing it as a “snack”. However it seems it wasn’t his mere cooking that Ndlozi and other social media users took issue with, but the fact that he had used six eggs for the dish.

“I really don’t know what is worse; your indifference to the fact that 2 million more people are unemployed today or you bragging about cooking gibberish,” Ndlozi tweeted.

“How unaffected must you be to break half a dozen eggs all for yourself & display for us all to see how full your belly is?”

Ndlozi to Mboweni: ‘You might become Humpty Dumpty’

In light of the EFF MP’s response, perhaps the minister had chosen the wrong day to make the meal – as it coincided with the release of the unemployment stats, which showed that the number of South Africans without work had ballooned to 42%. As per Stats SA’s official definition, unemployment refers to people who are actively seeking work – this would mean that the unemployment rate has decreased to 23.3% in the second quarter.

It’s certainly no secret that the coronavirus pandemic has battered the local economy, but even trickier for Mboweni is probably the fact that he is a key roleplayer in how the country responds to the challenges that have arisen.

Ndlozi was far from done, tweeting:

“With half a dozen eggs in a single belly, all at once, you might become Humpty Dumpty – the Egg Man who fell from a wall. They couldn’t put him together ever again… poor Humpty Dumpty!”
