Bad Boy: ANC MP allegedly threatens to ‘kick journalist’s testicles’
The South African National Editors Forum (Sanef) has reacted with grave concern after it was alleged that controversial ANC MP Boy Mamabolo made serious threats towards a Sunday World journalist.
Boy Mamabolo allegedly threatens journalist
Ngwako Malatji has provided screenshots to SAPS, which show Mamabolo making a threat to shoot the reporter. The elected official also told Malatji that he would ‘kick his testicles’. The troubling confrontation has resulted in the journalist opening a case of intimidation against an MP who’s already made headlines in 2020.
“At the weekend ANC MP, Boy Mamabolo threatened to shoot Sunday World reporter, Ngwako Malatji and kick his testicles after the journalist investigated an incident involving the politician and called to get his side of the story – as required by the Press Council’s Code of Conduct.”
“The journalist was investigating allegations that Mamabolo made unsavoury remarks about President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to ban the sale of alcohol for the second time. A source explained that Mamabolo had threatened some of the members of the Milo Malatjie ANC branch, which Mamabolo chairs.”
“The source had provided evidence in the form of cell phone screengrabs of WhatsApp conversations in which Mamabolo allegedly threatened them with violence. Malatji has opened a case of intimidation against Mamabolo at Mondeor police station in Johannesburg. SAPS must take this threat seriously.”
A controversial year for this ANC MP
The ANC has also been implored to take action against the unruly member, as SANEF demand that some form of disciplinary proceedings is instituted against Boy Mamabolo. The MP has had trouble keeping a low profile this year after he accused Julius Malema of beating his wife during SONA.
The altercation, which occurred just before the coronavirus pandemic arrived in South Africa, left a sour taste in Parliament. Although the National Assembly has had its fair share of dust-ups, Mamabolo’s conduct was widely condemned. He ended up apologising to Malema after the EFF leader opened a defamation case.
