KwaZulu-Natal: Missing six-year-old girl found dead

The body of Grade 1 Umhlali Preparatory School pupil, Alexia Nyamadzawo was discovered in Rietvalley located outside of Glendale in KwaZulu-Natal.

The girl’s abduction

According to police reports, the six-year-old was allegedly abducted from her mother’s car at approximately 6pm on 31 May 2020 by an unknown suspect.
The incident took place in Glendale Road, Shayamoya, KwaZulu-Natal. The young girl was snatched from the vehicle as her mother slowed down at a speed bump. 

K9 Search and Rescue Assistance 

IPSS Medical Rescue’s Search and Rescue division explained that new information in the case led to the discovery of the victim. 

“Due to the perseverance and dedication of SAP Umhlali detectives, armed with new information, a search area in Rietvalley just outside of Glendale was identified. With the help of SAPS K9 Search and Rescue dogs, the body of the six-year-old was located. We commend the dedicated officers and detectives who persevered for the results that were required.” 

IPSS Medical Rescue added that they would like to acknowledge the work of the local community in searching for the young girl. 

“We would also like to thank the farming community and residents of Glendale that assisted in the search.” 

No further information regarding a suspect has been released yet and cause of death is yet to be determined.
