Kate Middleton shares throwback photo in support of the Chelsea Flower Show
Kensington Palace recently confirmed that the popular Chelsea Flower Show in the United Kingdom is going digital. Yes, one of the world’s greatest flower shows is going digital to bring garden enthusiasts an exciting line-up of world-leading designers, plant experts and practical gardening advice – all from the comfort of your home.
Last year, South Africa won gold at the Chelsea Flower Show for the 37th time in 43 years. Now, due to the world’s latest developments and social distancing, the gardening event had to be cancelled. But, luckily technology is bringing the show to the web and its audience over the globe.
This year, the show will take place virtually until 23 May 2020.
The 2020 Chelsea Flower Show
In support of the Chelsea Flower Show, Kensington Palace shared a previously-unseen photo of Kate Middleton. The photo was posted in support of the show and is seemingly a throwback to when the Duchess of Cambridge unveiled a garden she designed called the ‘Back to Nature’ Garden in 2019.
Kate’s ‘Back to Nature’ garden was also on show at the Chelsea Flower Show last year before similar designs were displayed at RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival and RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey.
The caption read:
“One year on from The Duchess of Cambridge’s #BackToNature Garden, the Chelsea Flower Show is going digital! Visit @The_RHS to join the virtual #ChelseaFlowerShow for practical gardening advice from world-leading designers and experts all from the comfort of your own home.
“The Duchess’s Back to Nature garden in 2019 aimed to highlight the physical and mental health benefits of the natural world and inspire children, families, and communities to enjoy the great outdoors.”
Winning gold with ‘Mountains of Abundance’
Last year, Kirstenbosch represented South Africa on the show’s world stage. On Facebook, Leon Kluge – designer and gardener (who won gold at the show last year and before) said:
“Every second of the past nine months becomes worth it when holding the Gold award at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show. What an experience it has been.
“A huge thank you to my amazing team for putting it all together with me and everyone involved that helped me bring this creation to life.”
