Gone Home

Gone Home – which was developed and published by The Fullbright Company back in 2013 – is a first-person adventure indie game set in 1995. 7 June 1995 at 1:15, to be precise.

You arrive home after a year abroad and expect your family to greet you, but the house is empty. You can sense that something isn’t right. Where is everyone? And what’s happened here?

You need to unravel the mystery for yourself and uncover what happened to your loved ones. Fun! Right? No? Just me? Okay then.

Gone Home has a Top Critic Average rating of 84 and more than 70% of critics recommend it. Marty Silva from IGN says the “writing and artifact design are so good that [he] felt compelled to grab everything that wasn’t bolted to the floor”. Marty adds:

“Stepping foot inside of the Greenbriar home and discovering the things they left behind is a powerful experience. Gone Home is a remarkable achievement, and piecing together its poignant story will stick with me forever”.

Hob

Hob – which was developed by Runic Games and published by Perfect World Entertainment back in 2017 – is an exploration puzzle game without text or dialogue. You uncover Hob’s story as you uncover the planet and interact with strange lifeforms.

The landscape changes continually and you must use your mechanical glove-arm abilities for combat. When you’re not battling rogue creatures, explore the planet’s ruin and befriend sprites. It’s a strange, beautiful world, I loved it.

Hob has a Top Critic Average rating of 76 and 63% of critics said they’d recommend the game. In fact, Christian Donlan from EuroGamer describes the world of Hob as a “beautiful, delicate thing of dials and pulleys and clamps and switches”.

“The story Hob tells is both simple and a bit confusing – and it seems to have been mangled slightly by last-minute edits, as in the case of that other great Zelda, The Wind Waker. Still, what remains is generous and stuffed with moments of genuine awe”.

World War Z

World War Z is described as a “heart-pounding four-player cooperative third-person shooter” featuring massive swarms of zombies. The gameplay is fast-paced and inspired by the eponymous film starring Brad Pitt.

Drawful 2

Drawful 2 is a game of “terrible drawings and hilariously wrong answers”, the creators assure us. Get ready to draw “death by trombone,” or “a pitcher of nachos”. You were warned.

Tormentor x Punisher

Tormentor x Punisher is going to be quite the challenge as everything in the game can be killed with one hit, including you. You’ll have to explore and discover new ways to kill enemies, it’s the only way to gain new upgrades.

Figment

Figment is described as a “musical-adventure set in the recesses of the human mind”. Discover the human subconscious and explore a whimsical hand-drawn world with an award-winning musical score.
