Bake some simple and sweet sugar cookies this lockdown weekend

This cookie recipe is super simple to make, and yet so delicious it’ll soon become a firm favourite in your house. Sweet, delicious, and tasty are just a few words that come to mind when we think of these sugar cookies.

So grab your apron, your whisk, and let’s get baking.

Sugar cookies

Prep: 15 minutes
Cook: 10 – 15 minutes
Total: 30 minutes
Makes: 50 cookies depending on the size of your cookies

Ingredients

2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 cup butter, softened
1 ½ cups sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1: Preheat oven to 190 degrees.

Step 2: In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.

Step 3: In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Make sure your butter is soft.

Step 4: Beat the egg and the vanilla essence to your butter/sugar mixture. Thereafter, gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Mix until all combined.

Step 5: Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto a lightly greased baking tray. Use a little spray and cook. Remember your batter is already made up of butter so a lot of greasing isn’t necessary. Remember to also allow enough space between each ball for the cookie to bake and form.

Step 6: Bake for 10 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. When you take them out the oven they will still be slightly soft – this is perfectly normal.

Step 7: Remove cookies from the hot baking tray and allow them to cool and harden on a separate tray or cookie sheet until they reach your desired texture. Some individuals like them semi-hard, some like them crisp.

Best enjoyed with a hot cup of tea. Enjoy!
