Meghan Markle narrated a Disney film about elephants, details released

Organisers have officially released new details of Meghan Markle’s most recent project. It is reported that Meghan has narrated a Disney film about an elephant and his mother on an “epic journey” across the Kalahari Desert.

The film simply titled Elephant is set to be released three days after the Duchess of Sussex and her husband, Prince Harry officially leave the Royal Family in search of “financial independence”.

The trailer, released on 26 March 2020, did not feature Meghan’s narration. It is reported that Meghan agreed to do the voiceover after a direct request from filmmakers, and recorded it in the UK in the autumn (Spring in South Africa) after seeing footage of the documentary. Omid Scoobie, a royal correspondent confirmed the news on Twitter, saying:

“In recognition of Earth Month, Meghan has voiced a Disneynature original movie, which will be available to stream on Disney Plus. Elephant follows African elephant Shani and her son Joao as their heard made an epic journey across the Kalashnikov Desert.

“She was made aware of the project via mutual friends of the filmmakers, like the founder of Elephant Without Borders‘ Mike Chase, who she met in Botswana in 2016.”

The film will be released together with Disneynature’s Dolphin Reef, narrated by Natalie Portman, on 3 April 2020 on Disney Plus.

More about Earth Month

Earth Month is right around the corner in April, with Earth Day itself taking place on 4 April 2020.

Close to 48 years ago, on 22 April 1970, 20 million people took to the streets to protest the negative impacts of 150 years of industrial development. In the US and around the world, smog was becoming deadly and evidence was growing that pollution led to developmental delays in children.

Biodiversity was in decline as a result of the heavy use of pesticides and other pollutants.

The global ecological awareness was growing and in July of the same year, they created the Environmental Protection Agency, and robust environmental laws such as the Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act, among many more in the US.

Earth Day is now a global event each year, and it is believed that more than one billion people in 192 countries now take part in what is the largest civic-focused day of action in the world.
