Watch: Hilarious clip of policeman chasing his horse in East London goes viral [video]
A South African policeman was recently caught on camera chasing his police horse in East London. It seems the policeman’s horse got away from him for a minute while on duty as a member of the SA Police Service’s Mounted Unit.
The hilarious video comes after Dave Jackson shared it to the social media site, Facebook (after it was initially captured on the TikTok app).
“Meanwhile in East London,” wrote Jackson. “Dismounted Police Unit!!”
The video clocked in over 69 000 views since being uploaded on 1 January 2020.
About Mounted Units in SA
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), Mounted Units are effectively utilized in the deterrence of crime due to the high visibility of the Mounted rider and horse. Similarly, the Mounted Units renders an operational support to Police Stations and Cluster Operations within the Provinces, thus enhancing community policing, tourism, Major events, beach patrols and National Parades.
The rider of the Equestrian Unit responds to crime on horseback. They support the stock theft unit, do border patrols, crowd control and have the task of crime prevention and visible policing in urban and rural areas.
