Farewell Mabine Seabe: Another top DA official quits the party

The DA have suffered another blow within their leadership structures, after Mabine Seabe decided to quit the party on Tuesday morning. It follows a tumultuous time for the official opposition, who have lost support in crucial by-elections and saw Mmusi Maimane and Herman Mashaba ditch them in the last few months.

Who is Mabine Seabe?

The outgoing member served as the communications manager for the DA. He also made a name for himself as Mmusi Maimane’s spokesperson, supporting the first-ever black leader of the party. Their bond was close, but Seabe has been quick to dismiss links of his departure to Maimane’s decision to step down.

According to him, an opportunity has presented itself and he cannot turn it down. Mabine Seabe is willing to walk away from politics to take up a position in the private sector, confirming that “his season with the DA” is done:

“In politics we all have our times and seasons and my season with the DA has come and gone. It also brings an opportunity for me to venture out and start a new project which I’m very excited about. For the record, I resigned on my own terms.”

“I am now working on an exciting venture with some talented people to change how the private sector communicates and channels its CSI funding. I wish my former colleagues all the very best.”

Another DA official leaves the party

His departure comes at a sensitive time for the Blues. With the municipal elections only a year away – and the party’s federal conference scheduled for May – time is running out for the DA to steady the ship and present themselves as a viable option for the electorate. A strong, trustrworthy replacement for Mabine Seabe is needed.
