The English Premier League returns for a full weekend of action following last weekend’s break for the FA Cup fourth round, with a host of mouthwatering fixtures on Saturday and Sunday.

Runaway leaders Liverpool host Southampton in one of their 14 league games remaining the season.

Klopp’s side have turned the title race into a procession and they moved 19 points clear at the top with their 23rd victory from 24 league games this season when they beat West Ham 2-0 on Wednesday. Mohamed Salah opened the scoring with a first half penalty at the London Stadium and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain wrapped up Liverpool’s 15th successive league win after the interval.

The Reds are so far ahead of second-placed Manchester City that’s more a question of when, not if, they’ll win the title.  

Reigning champions Manchester City face a long wait until Sunday afternoon to play the last game of the weekend away at Tottenham.

Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho resume their touchline rivalry having both taken four points from their last two EPL matches.

City are back on song after their iffy end to 2019, with a win by the only goal at high-flying Sheffield United last time out keeping them second in the table.

Spurs go into the weekend in sixth but a whopping 17 points adrift of their visitors but did at least stop a rotten run of form with victory over rock-bottom Norwich in the last round of fixtures.

Bookending the Premier League weekend are Leicester and Chelsea, who kick off the action on Saturday lunchtime looking to boost their Champions League qualification chances.

The Foxes put to bed back-to-back defeats by thrashing West Ham before the break for cup action while the Blues have won just once in their last four, at home to Burnley three weeks ago.

Sean Dyche’s side have gone on to stun both Leicester and Manchester United since that reverse, with Arsenal next in their sights in Sunday’s other EPL game.

The Gunners tiptoe into Turf Moor off the back of three successive draws, leaving them a dispiriting tenth in the standings and above their hosts on goal difference alone.

Saturday evening sees a tantalising clash between Manchester United and Wolves at Old Trafford.

They represent another duo locked on the same points and needing a tonic to boost their European dreams, with United losing their last two while Wolves were pipped at the post by Liverpool in their most recent Molineux assignment.

It’s nip and tuck at the wrong end of the Premier League, too, with a pair of six-pointers in the scramble to beat the drop to the Championship.

Bournemouth finally grabbed a sixth win of the season when they beat relegation rivals Brighton last midweek.

Eddie Howe’s side will attempt to repeat the feat on Saturday at home to fellow strugglers Aston Villa, who go to the Vitality Stadium two places and two points above the Cherries.

Brighton travel to West Ham with exactly the same flimsy buffer, with the 15th-placed Seagulls without a win in four as they go to the London Stadium.

David Moyes’ Hammers go into the crunch clash outside the relegation zone on goal difference – and off the back of a 4-1 humbling at Leicester.

Watford also remain in the mire despite a remarkable turnaround under new boss Nigel Pearson, which was halted by Aston Villa ten days ago.

They welcome another rejuvenated side at Vicarage Road on Saturday in Everton, who are safe and sound in midtable after three games unbeaten under Carlo Ancelotti.

Surprise package Sheffield United start the weekend in eighth despite winning just one of their last five.

Crystal Palace are the next obstacle for the Blades on Saturday, with Roy Hodgson’s Eagles having not won in five attempts since Boxing Day.

Newcastle are unbeaten in three as they look to take another step closer to EPL survival at home to Norwich, who prop up the table and are six points from safety.
