Alfred Nzo mayor, Mehlomakhulu, filmed in heated scuffle [video]

It seems that Sixolile Mehlomakhulu, Executive Mayor of the Alfred Nzo District Municipality, in the Eastern Cape, can’t keep his name out of trouble.

Alfred Nzo mayor filmed in a brawl

Mehlomakhulu has found himself as the subject of controversy yet again. The Alfred Nzo mayor was filmed in a brawl with members of a household. Xola Mekhomakhulu, a relative of the Alfred Nzo mayor, posted a video showing the mayor in a scuffle with members of his family, in KwaBhaca.

The details surrounding the incident are still unclear at the moment as the ANC in the region has not come forth with a reaction to the viral video.

According to Xola, however, this is linked to a court matter between the Alfred Nzo mayor and his 87-year-old mother.

In September 2019, Mehlomakhulu was hauled to court by his mother after he allegedly forcibly removed furniture, beds, cutlery and pots from the family’s KwaBhaca home.

As reported by Dispatch Live, Mehlomakhulu was ordered to desist from “psychologically, emotionally and economically abusing” his mother.

As it is clearly indicated in the string of tweets posted by Xola — who is also embroiled in a court scuffle with the mayor over his tweets — things were pretty violent at the family’s KwaBhaca residence. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries to report.

‘Mayor Mehlomakhulu runs office on borrowed time’ – EFF

The EFF has been at the forefront of calls to remove a troubled Mehlomakhulu from power in the Eastern Cape district. Two months ago, the party warned that if the Alfred Nzo mayor was not axed by the end of December 2019, the district municipality would be rendered ungovernable in January.

Mehlomakhulu has been branded as an incompetent mayor with a knack for controversy. The Alfred Nzo mayor was recently released from police custody after he was caught, in Pietermaritzburg, with an unlicensed, loaded pistol.

“We will have no choice but to mobilise, get into the streets, and render this district ungovernable,” EFF regional chairperson, Mawande Magada warned.
