Cape Town Sevens 2019: South Africa vs France Cup semi-final – kick off time, live score and result

Additional reporting by SA Rugby / Wires / Agencies.

The Blitzboks will face a plucky French side in the semi-finals of the 2019 Cape Town Sevens on Sunday. Kick off is at 14:39.

South Africa beat Kenya 17-5 in a brutal quaterfinal earlier in the day.

The Blitzboks scored three tries – with Ruhan Nel dotting down twice – and had the big crowd on the edge of their seats for long periods of the game, as their African counterparts refused to give up.

A few unnecessary handling errors and missed tackles didn’t make life any easier for the South Africans though, but in the end they simply had too much power and pace for Kenya.

Kenya opened the scoring with a try by Alvin Otieno after they turned over possession deep in their own half.

Moments later Nel knocked on with an open try-line in front of him, but the big Blitzbok midfielder made amends soon afterwards as he swerved and powered his way over to tie the scores at 5-5, which was also the score at the break.

In the second half, the Blitzboks looked far more composed. A combination of chemistry and ferocious defending helped them seal the win. Defence is something the South Africans have built a reputation on. That was never more evident than Ryan Oosthuizen’s thumping tackel against Samoa last weekend. Against Kenya, Justin Geduld delivered a defensive lesson of equal measure.

“It’s just about putting my body on the line for the team,” Geduld said afterwards.
