Kaizer Chiefs news: Goalkeeper conundrum ahead of TKO tie
Kaizer Chiefs have a bit of a selection dilemma ahead of their Telkom Knockout semi-final tie against Maritzburg United at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.
Regular goalkeeper Daniel Cardoso is unavailable for the clash, leaving the inexperienced Bruce Bvuma as the most likely candidate to take up the gloves.
Who starts in goal for Kaizer Chiefs?
Another player who could feature in Nelspruit is former Bafana captain Itumeleng Khune, who could play his first game since September.
The 32-year old has been out of action since suffering a groin injury against Baroka, almost a month to the day.
He has been declared fit by the club, and has travelled with the rest of the squad to Mpumalanga.
The club revealed via its website on Friday;
“Ahead of their trip to Nelspruit for the Telkom Knockout Cup on the weekend, Itumeleng Khune is medically fit and has joined the team in full training. Khune has been recovering from a groin injury he picked up in the game against Baroka FC in September.”
While it remains to be seen whether Khune will be deemed ready to start such a high stakes game, Bvuma is the man waiting in the sidelines.
The 24-year old was backed by defender, Daniel Cardoso.
“I mean, Bruce steps up to the plate every time he plays. He is still very young and energetic. He talks quite a bit and I think he does the job for us.”

Cardoso rues his namesake’s absence, but does feel the team is in good hands, regardless who starts in goal on Sunday.
“Daniel has been very good for us. It’s unfortunate… but we have got Bruce (Bvuma). I mean, Bruce steps up to the plate every time he plays. He is still very young and energetic. He talks quite a bit and I think he does the job for us,” said Cardoso.
