DOUBLE MURDER: Pair assaulted with sjamboks – then BURNT
There’s quite a horrific story emerging from the North West: The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched a murder investigation after two people were found dead at Makhubung Village just outside Mahikeng.
According to police, two partially-burnt bodies, believed to be those of Lesotho nationals, were spotted by a passer-by on the road between Makhubung and Ga-Seipone Section.
“According to information received, a group of people driving in a white bakkie arrived at a cattle post together with one of the victims on Wednesday afternoon, 01 December 2021. The victim was removed from the bakkie and assaulted with sjamboks by a group of males. The latter then drove away with the same bakkie and later returned with the second victim who was also assaulted,” says North West SAPS spokesperson Captain Sam Tselanyane.
North West double murder: No arrests yet
It seems the murder victims’ ordeal was far from over – North West police say the suspects then allegedly put both victims in the bakkie and drove away with them. It’s not known what transpired beyond that (whether they continued torturing the Lesotho nationals). But according to SAPS, they were later dumped along Makhubung and Ga-Seipone Section and subsequently set alight.
The pair had apparently been accused of stock theft by the group of men who had attacked them before presumably carrying out the ultimate crime – murder. The victims remain unidentified and no arrests have been made yet in the matter.
Police are still investigating the horrific crime and have since called on the public to assist.
“Police are urging anyone with information that can lead to arrest of the suspects to contact the Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Neo Motswadira of Mmabatho Crime Investigation Services on 079 897 1944. Alternatively, Crime Stop can be contacted on 08600 10111. Anonymous tip-offs can also be communicated via My SAPS App. All information received will be treated with confidentiality,” Tselanyane said.
