Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

  1. Yellow level 1 warning for damaging winds is expected over Makana LM, Joe Gqabi DM and Chris Hani DM of the Eastern Cape, which might result in localized power and communication interruptions, localized damages to temporary structures as well as some disruptions to road transport.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

  1. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the central and eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the Free State, North West, northern interior of the Eastern Cape, Gauteng, central and western parts of Limpopo and the extreme western parts of Mpumalanga.

ADVISORIES:

  1. A heat wave is expected in places over Mpumalanga and Limpopo until Saturday, excluding the Lowveld and escarpment areas of the two provinces.
  2. Extremely hot conditions are expected in places in the Lowveld of Mpumalanga and Limpopo on Saturday.

Gauteng:

Temperature: Fine and warm to hot.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Fine and warm to hot, but cloudy to partly cloudy in the Lowveld and escarpment areas at first.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Fine and hot to very hot, but cloudy to partly cloudy in the Lowveld and escarpment areas at first.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Fine and hot, becoming partly cloudy in the west from the afternoon.

Free State:

Temperature: Fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy in the western parts from the afternoon.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Cloudy in the western and southern parts in the morning and evening, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to cold but warm to hot in the eastern and northern parts.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-easterly to southerly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and cool to cold but cloudy with light rain and showers from late morning over the south-western parts spreading to the western interior from the afternoon.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-easterly to southerly, but moderate to fresh westerly to south-westerly south of Saldanha Bay spreading along the south coast by the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm, but cloudy and cool along the coast and adjacent interior.

The Western half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate easterly, becoming moderate to fresh south-westerly from the afternoon.

The Eastern half Temperature: Cloudy and cool with morning and evening light rain along the coast and adjacent interior, otherwise partly cloudy, windy and warm.

The Eastern half Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate easterly in the morning and again from the evening, otherwise moderate to fresh north-easterly.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Fine and warm but hot over the interior. It will become partly cloudy in the south by the afternoon.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-easterly to easterly becoming north-easterly in the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Very high.
