Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

  1. Yellow level 2 warning for damaging wind resulting in difficulty in navigation at sea along the coast between Table Bay and Plettenberg Bay.
  2. Yellow level 1 warning for strong winds issued over Joe Gqabi DM and Chris Hani DM, which might result in localized power and communications failure, as well as localized damage to temporary structures (such as tents, etc.).

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

  1. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the eastern half of the Northern Cape, the North West, the Lowveld of Limpopo, the southern Highveld and the Lowveld of Mpumalanga, the southern parts of Gauteng, the Free State, the northern and western interior of the Eastern Cape, as well as the KZN.

ADVISORIES:

  1. A heat wave is expected in places on the Highveld and northern Lowveld of Mpumalanga and the south-western Bushveld, central parts and Lowveld of Limpopo until Saturday.
  2. Extremely hot conditions are expected in places in the Lowveld of Mpumalanga and Limpopo on Thursday and Saturday.
  3. Hot and humid weather will results in extremely uncomfortable conditions over the central and eastern parts of KZN Thursday (14/10/2021).

Gauteng:

Temperature: Fine and warm but hot in the north.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Fine and warm to hot but very hot to extremely hot in places in the Lowveld.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Fine and hot to very hot but extremely hot in the southern Lowveld.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Fine and hot.

Free State:

Temperature: Fine and warm to hot.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm to hot but very hot in the north-east.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-westerly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool along the west and south-west coast with a chance of light rain and showers in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm becoming cloudy along the south coast.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate west to north-westerly along the west coast but fresh to strong along the south-west and south coast becoming moderate southerly by afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half Temperature: Fine and warm, becoming partly cloudy in the south from the afternoon.

The Western half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be Moderate south westerly at first, otherwise strong to near Gale, but fresh by evening.

The Eastern half Temperature: Fine and warm but hot to very hot over the interior becoming partly cloudy south of escapement from evening.

The Eastern half Wind: The wind along the coast will be Moderate south westerly, becoming strong to near gale from the afternoon, but fresh in the evening.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Fine and hot to very hot, but extremely hot in places in the north-east.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be Moderate north-easterly, becoming moderate to fresh south-westerly from the south in the afternoon spreading northwards.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.
