SABC yet to renew ‘7de Laan’ contract, cast unpaid for two months

A source from 7de Laan has revealed that they haven’t been been shooting since August and have not been paid for two months.

The source who claims to be from the Afrikaans soapie sent The Citizen an anonymous SMS that states that they’re struggling financially.

The news come a week after Sowetan reported that the SABC has also not renewed 7de Laan’s sister-soapie, Muvhango.

Muvhango’s cast and crew have also not been paid for two months since they stopped shooting in August.

‘7DE LAAN’S WOES

The actors from the Afrikaans soapie are concerned about the renewal of their soapie’s contract with the SABC, as the studios are vacant.

This is after SABC2 announced that the iconic Afrikaans soapie is coming back to its five days a week schedule last month (2 September).

The source who claims to be employed by Danie Odendaal Productions states the cast has been on a break since 6 August 2021 when they finished shooting season 22.

The soapie’s publicity manager, Kayleen Bessit, also told The Citizen that they have never waited this long for a contract to be renewed.

Some staffers are starting to believe that the channel is cancelling the soapie as there seems to be no indication when the contract will be renewed.

It is understood that the shows production management has been in constant contact with the SABC.

“The cast and crew have not been paid since August and are now being heavily impacted financially,” the SMS reads.

“SABC brought 7de Laan back for five days so the episodes that the production was shooting will last them up to the end of December 2021.”
