Suspect shot in the buttocks during Bophelong shootout

Two suspects were shot and injured during a shootout with authorities in Bophelong on Tuesday. 

THE SHOOTING HAPPENED ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON

According to ER24 emergency services spokesperson Russel Meiring, a shooting happened on Tuesday afternoon in Bophelong, Vanderbijlpark. 

“ER24 paramedics arrived at the location at 15h10 to find the local authorities already in attendance.”

He said two men were seen lying in the middle of the road.

“Paramedics assessed the men and found that one had sustained a gunshot wound to his buttocks while the second man suffered a gunshot wound to his leg.”

Meiring said paramedics treated the men and provided them with pain-relief medication before they were transported to a provincial hospital for further care.

“The details surrounding this incident are unknown.”

Last month a 16-year-old boy was shot in the head and killed while a man with him was shot and injured in Cape Town.

Netcare911 spokesperson, Shawn Herbst said the shooting happened at 15:57 on Wednesday, 7 July 2021. 

“Paramedics responded to a shooting near Silversands Road in Delft, Cape Town.”

He said reports from the scene indicate that both the teenager and other man had sustained gunshot wounds to their heads.

“On the scene with Netcare 911 was Metro EMS and Life Paramedics.”

“Paramedics assessed both patients and found that the teenager had sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased on the scene.

“The second male had sustained critical injuries and was treated and stabilised on the scene before being transported by ambulance to a hospital for further care.

“Circumstances leading up to the incident will be investigated by the relevant authorities.”
