Brighton boss Graham Potter opens about why Percy Tau was sold to Al Ahly
Brighton & Hove Albion coach Graham Potter has opened up on the reasons why the club decided to sell Percy Tau.
Tau was recently announced as a new signing by Egyptian giants Al Ahly, after they had agreed a deal with Brighton to sign the Bafana Bafana international.
Mosimane hinted at SA player signing
Al Ahly boss Pitso Mosimane had long hinted that the Egyptian Red Devils would sign a South African ahead of the new season, which was a statement that then birthed plenty of speculation as to who the player could be. An Egyptian pundit and Al Ahly legend even went as far as saying the player in question was Kaizer Chiefs youngster Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.

However, that statement has proven to be rather wide off the mark, at least as far as things stand. Ngcobo has already begun his second full season at Chiefs and does not seem to be in any discussions to leave the club as of yet. Tau, on the other hand has been a long-term target for Al Ahly since the arrival of Mosimane, but his move was not thought of as possible until intense speculation occurred.
Tau gave hints he was leaving Brighton
Then as the game time started to dry up at Brighton for Tau during their pre-season, and his recent spotting in the country, it then became apparent that the player was indeed heading to Al Ahly. Tau, in fact, had already given a big hint about the move the previous week when he removed Brighton as his club on the bio of his official Instagram account.

The worst secret would eventually be confirmed by both Al Ahly and Brighton and Tau was officially a Red Devil player earlier this week. The Seagulls manager has finally opened up on the tricky wingers exit from the club, and why they chose to sell him.
Potter on why he was sold to Al Ahly
“I have really enjoyed working with Percy (Tau). He is very professional and extremely popular with the rest of the squad. At this stage of his career he wants to be playing regularly and we fully understand that, this move gives him the opportunity to do that and he is joining one of Africa’s top clubs.
