Bernard Parker joins Itumeleng Khune and Thabo Mooki in Kaizer Chiefs record books
Bernard Parker began his 11th league campaign with Kaizer Chiefs by captaining Amakhosi in their goalless draw against TS Galaxy in their opening DStv Premiership match of the season last Sunday.

In the process Parker made history and reached yet another milestone with the Soweto giants.
Bernard Parker joined a select group of Kaizer Chiefs players who have featured in 10 opening league games of a new season with the Glamour Boys in the PSL era.

He joined Thabo Mooki and Itumeleng Khune as players since 1996/97 to have featured the most times in the opening league match of a season for Kaizer Chiefs.
Since joining Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the 2011/12 season, Parker has only missed out on starting the opening game in the 2014/15 season, and has featured in the team’s opening league game in 10 of 11 seasons, with Sunday’s game being the seventh season in succession that he featured in Kaizer Chiefs’ opener.

Only Mooki and Willard Katsande, who featured in the opening league games in nine successive campaigns, and Khune, who has played in eight opening league games in succession, have featured in more successive opening league matches of a PSL season for Kaizer Chiefs.
For Bernard Parker – who was this week named as club vice-captain for the season by coach Stuart Baxter – the match against TS Galaxy was his 260th league appearance for Kaizer Chiefs and his 355th match for the club overall.

He has scored 58 goals in those matches and one more goal will see him overtake Siphiwe Tshabalala as Kaizer Chiefs’ all-time top scorer in the PSL era in all competitions.

Parker will also be looking to catch up to Tshabalala and become the club’s leading scorer in league matches since the formation of the PSL.
Currently, Parker has scored 45 league goals for Kaizer Chiefs while Tshabalala has 49.
Parker recently said in an interview that “wherever the coach will put me, every time you see Bernard Parker, he will give his 120% for the team”.

Kaizer Chiefs will next be in action against Baroka FC in their second DStv Premiership match of the season on Wednesday, 25 August at the FNB Stadium.
Kick-off is scheduled for 17:00.
